Accountant

Interim Accountant, 6 month day rate, Tech, ASAP start.

Altum Consulting are partnering with a fast-growing technology business to recruit an Interim Accountant for an initial 6 month period. This role will focus on strengthening and stabilising the connection between Payroll and Finance.

The successful candidate will take payroll outputs and translate them into accurate financial journals, reconciliations, and reporting - effectively building a robust bridge between the two functions.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment, requiring someone comfortable creating structure, improving processes and working with minimal supervision.

Role:

• Act as the key link between Payroll and Finance, ensuring accurate financial treatment of payroll outputs.
• Prepare and post payroll-related journals into the finance system.
• Ensure payroll costs are accurately allocated across nominal ledger accounts.
• Track and document journals to create a clear and auditable trail.
• Review invoices and confirm accurate posting.
• Reconcile payroll costs, accruals, and associated cost recharges to ensure financial integrity (ensuring money out equals money in).
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations relating to payroll accounts.
• Identify discrepancies and implement corrective adjustments.
• Streamline journal preparation and reconciliation processes.
• Strengthen financial controls and documentation to support audit readiness.
• Work with vendors to enhance payroll reporting outputs.
• Develop structured reconciliation and tracking tools using Excel.
• Support improvements within the accounting system (NetSuite experience beneficial but not essential).

You'll be/have:

• Part/Qualified accountant.
• Understanding of payroll accounting principles and how this relates to finance.
• Experience preparing and posting journals and reconciling nominal ledger accounts.
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations, data manipulation).
• Experience working across functions, ideally bridging operational and finance teams.
• Comfortable working in a scale up environment.
