Financial Controller, Netherlands
The Financial Controller is a strategic leadership role within the finance department, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the business. They work closely with the Director of Finance to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, maintain strong financial controls, and support the overall financial health of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Leading the Finance Team
- Manage and develop a high-performing team of finance professionals.
- Ensure the team is well-structured and equipped to perform effectively.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately to maximise team efficiency.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members.
Ensuring Accurate and Timely Financial Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Analyse financial results and provide insights to management.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts and tax returns utilising GAAP and IFRS.
Maintaining Strong Financial Controls
- Develop and implement robust financial controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Review and improve financial processes and procedures.
- Monitor and address any identified control weaknesses.
Supporting Business Decision-Making
- Provide financial analysis and advice to support business decisions.
- Prepare financial models and projections.
- Evaluate the financial impact of new initiatives and projects.
- Assist in the preparation of business cases.
Managing Cash Flow
- Monitor cash flow and ensure adequate liquidity.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and projections.
- Identify opportunities to optimise cash flow.
Overseeing Treasury Functions
- Manage banking relationships and ensure efficient treasury operations.
- Monitor foreign exchange exposures and implement hedging strategies as needed.
- Coordinate with group treasury to ensure compliance with treasury policies and procedures.
Collaborating with Other Departments
- Work closely with other departments to understand their financial needs and provide support.
- Ensure effective communication and collaboration across the organisation.
Supporting the Director of Finance
- Provide support to the Director of Finance in various financial matters.
- Assist in the development and implementation of financial strategies.
- Represent the finance department in cross-functional projects.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor\'s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial accounting role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in financial accounting software and tools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience leading and managing a team.
