Unlocking Talent: Supporting a Big 4 Firm to Secure Top Consulting Candidates

Brief from Client :
Altum Consulting recently partnered with one of the big 4 in the Management Consulting space. Leaders in their field, they provide clients with a best-in-class service across several industries and service lines. Their Assets Advisory practice is known for strategic and cost focused advice, and relies heavily on beating their competitors with ingenuity, commitment, and excellence.

Altum Consulting was approached to support the client’s recruitment efforts on three mandates at various levels, a Consultant, Manager, and Senior Manager all within the Assets and Infrastructure consulting space. Being the leader in their field the client has an exceptionally high bar on talent with a complex interview process that includes a mix of technical, competency and motivation focused stages delivered to multiple internal stakeholders. It was crucial for Altum to provide candidates that had the correct industry experience, could deliver a high level of value, and had an advisory skillset. This is always a challenge as there is a limited talent pool that matches the standard and requires a recruitment partner with experts in the industry to be able to deliver this.

Execution:
Our Big 4 client had previously worked with Joe Parker, Business Manager leading Altum’s Management Consulting practice, and had a solid reputation after he delivered some exceptional value through previous placements for the Assets Advisory team. Due to the challenging nature of recruiting in this space it is important for a recruitment partner to have extensive knowledge of the business, market and have specialists in this area.

The Altum team, led by Joe, understood the brief, and the expectations and responsibilities at each level in the business. Altum delivered a multifaceted approach, initially utilising their network to collect referrals of suitable candidates. They also curated a tailored sourcing strategy for the client, considering the consulting industry and the infrastructure and asset advisory space to find candidates meeting the briefs from a skillset, motivations, and industry alignment perspective. Once potential candidates were identified, the team met each of them to explain in depth what the process would look like. After qualifying and disqualifying a mixture of active and passive candidates from relevant firms a shortlist of candidates was presented to the client– detailing their specific skillsets, motivations and requirements and ensuring the client was aware of any process nuances or external activity. It is always important to Altum to deliver a transparent and tailored experience throughout the process, which includes presenting the client with salary expectations, providing guidance on market rate, and acting as true partner in their search at every stage of the process.

The team supported the candidates throughout the undertaking, with a range of interview preparation meetings across the various stages and provided insight into the process, making sure candidates were fully aware of the time spend, level of preparation, and potential pitfalls they might experience.

Result:
The result of this was the successful offer and acceptance of all three roles that were being recruited for. The candidates came from directly competing firms in that specific area, all received competitive offers, and excellent feedback throughout the process.
